Benifits of Fish Oil

Fish oil has beneficial effects on health. AHA (American Heart A ssociation) Dietary Guideline(Revision 2000) suggests that adults can consume fish products at least twice a week. Fish is rich in Omega-3 fatty acids, eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). Scientific researches have confirmed that fish oil plays an active role in the following areas:

1. Inhibit growth of atherosclerotic plaque development, lower the risk of coronary heart disease. AHA recommended a daily intake of 1 gram of EPA and DHA for people at risk for heart disease.

2. Reduce the 3-oleate level. For those who need to regulate blood fat, AHA suggests to take 2 to 4 grams of fish oil or Omega 3 per day.

3. Reduce the risk of arrhythmia.

4. Help to relieve intestinal inflammation and prevent colitis.

5. Slightly lower blood pressure.

6. Relieve some of the symptoms of mental depression.

Overall, Omega-3 can reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease, prevent myocardial infarction and stroke. The best source of Omega 3 is from fish, especially oily fish, such as salmon, herring, tuna and sardines.
