What is Lecithin

Lecithin is one of the basic compounds found naturally in the human cells. It exists in the liver, heart, kidney and other major organs, and also supports the nervous system, blood circulatory system, immune system. Lecithin is a phospholipid substance, a class of fatty compounds containing phosphorus and a complex composition of glycerol. The lecithin family includes phosphatidylcholine(PC), cephalin/phosphatidylethanolamine(PE), inositol phospholipids/phosphoinositides(PI), phospholipid acid(PA),  serine phospholipids(PS) and other mixtures. The most typical types are the first three.

Commercial lecithin mostly refers to soy lecithin. It contains cephalin, cardiolipin, phosphatidic acid (PA), phosphatidylglycerol (PG), acetal phospholipids, and hemolytic phospholipids extracted from soybeans, mixed with neutral oil and other non-phospholipid components, such as pigments, sugars, galactosidase, cerebroside lipids.  These essential nutrients can benefit human body in different ways. Recently, many pharmaceutical scientists and nutrition experts have confirmed that lecithin(soy lecithin) plays an important role in health promotion and disease prevention.
 
Another type of lecithin is egg yolk phospholipids. Yolk lecithin is an animal embryo lecithin, rich in cholesterol, triglycerides, and many other essential nutrients.
